Hello world. My name is Evan Arsenault and I am a fairly recent college graduate trying to make my way in the world building my skillset and career. I work part-time for Hewlett Packard as a Representative and the rest of my time is spent either repairing computers for customers of my AYD Computers business or I am looking to improve my life in various ways or I am hanging out with family and friends. The Delta Ascus is in reference to the book I have been working on since High School. The concept is really a summarization of my perspectives, experiences, and beliefs. Essentially it is the essenscence of my being in words. I hope to finish the book by 2010 but it has been a long term project as quality has always been priority. Life has taught me that perspective and communication are everthing in life, so the Delta Ascus is my world, is in everything I touch and see, so I welcome you to my Ascus.
I attended Worcester State College and received a Bachelors Degree in Communications with a minor in Philosophy. I originally went for Computer Science and after 2 years of study I realized that coding was not what I wanted to dedicate my life to and so I moved on to communications because of my great love for multimedia. But before switching majors I found myself at Auburn Computers looking for an internship. The owner, Mike Gion, took me on and helped me learn so much over years and we grew to become good friends. I had started up my own computer repair business as AYD Computers in association to Auburn Computers and have been working part-time as a sole-proprietor ever since. I will be launching a web site for AYD Computers soon. I love to learn new things all the time and am looking forward to going to graduate school to study for a masters degree.
At the beginning of the year I had finally launched a FTP server that has given me access to files anywhere I can access the Internet, including my cell phone. In setting that up I had learned quite a bit about IP, DNS, internal and external networking. I have built on that experience by building applications and tools to make access easier and more universal. Shortly after setting up that network I had bought my first Apple computer that is a iMac Core 2 Duo which has helped me understand Unix a little better. I quickly fell in love with my iMac and have made it one of my main computers. I set out to network it into my TV and server to essentially create my own "Apple TV". It was a great accomplishment to get the scripting and tools so that from my couch I could pull up any media stored on my server to my television using a Apple Remote and the wonderfully simple interface of the "Front Row" software. The last project I had completed was in getting Mac OS X loaded onto my HP Mini 1030NR netbook. This was a awesome achievement that I am still enjoying quite a bit. The idea came from a pitch I made at a HP training meeting where I suggested that HP could join forces with Apple to produce a new line of computers that would reach far into the graphic design demographic that PC's tend to miss. You can check out the presentation I made in PowerPoint here.
I'm currently employed part-time as a Hewlett Packard representative and I am actively searching for full-time employment. As I search for employment I have been building skills in areas that I feel will benefit me in being able to accomplish long term goals while also becoming more skilled and professional in the field of information technology. I am learning Unix systems through Mac OS, PC-BSD, Xandros and Ubuntu while also expanding my knowledge of HTML, CSS, and general web development as this web site has been a great learning ground for that. I have studying cloud computing and hoping to learn that as it is quickly becoming an important technology.
I have been using a beta build of Windows 7 for the last few months and was suprised at how much I enjoy the new OS. I tested Windows Vista in its beta stages as well and even after its official release I never cared for Vista and expected the same from Windows 7. Fortunatley Microsoft has fixed everything I initially took issue with and improved on everything as a whole. For the first time in a while I am excited about a new Microsoft OS. I have also been beta testing the new Trillian instant messaging client Astra. I have been huge fan of Trillian by Cerulean Studios since I found it my sophomore year of college and have been using it ever since. Astra builds on every great feature of Trillian and I couldn't ask for more. I've only been using the latest build for a few days now and the features I've added since the earlier builds that I've been using for so long have been great and I am anticipating the official release!
When I'm not working I enjoy being with my friends or family having a good time. I love to play video games and watch movies when I have time and I am always working on learning something new or improving myself somehow. Until recent years I have not travelled but after a few great trips I am looking forward to travelling to new and exciting places. I hope to travel to Europe in next couple of years and learn more about cultures abroad.
The Delta Ascus translates to "a change in mind". I conceived the idea in my sophomore year of high school, a time when I was heavily involved in reading and researching philosophy, psychology, and religion. I have been adapting the concept of the Delta Ascus into a novel over the past 9 years. I knew it would be a long term project (originally thought to be about 10 years, I am not sure if I will meet that deadline) but remains an open project as its contents have been inspired by my experiences. I feel that it has become the single most important goal to finish within my lifetime.
